Getting settled into to post-college life

Hi everyone!

It's been a while since I've updated because I have been (like many of us, I'm sure) getting acclimated to my new life: new apartment, new roommates (but old friends), new job....all the brand spanking new things you get post-graduation (hopefully!).

Just to keep you up-to-date and informed: I'm sure you all saw the email the Hollins alumnae office sent to us that welcomed you to the Alumnae Association and also gave you my contact information with some details about the first letter/update. My first official class letter is due in September, so any information you would like to include is due to me by September 1, 2008. So please update me! Email me, leave a comment on the blog, give me a call, etc.; whatever you have to do to get in touch with me and let me know what is going on with your life!

So...on to updates. I am settled into my new apartment with Jenni Austin, '08 and Melody Thomas, '08. We live in the Washington, DC Metro area. So...if you are ever in the area, give us a call! I started working as the Communications Coordinator a few weeks ago at Community Support Services, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides services and community supports to children & adults with autism and developmental delays. I manage all aspects of the communications; including a newsletter, a website, internal and external correspondance, grant research and proposals....to name a few brief things. I love it! I am actually in the process of writing up a proposal for a J-Term internship here at my organization...I could use the help! If you have jobs; keep Hollins and Tina in mind and keep your eyes and ears out for any internship opps. in your company. Tina Rolen in the Career Center loves to hear from you (even if you don't have any internship leads from you), so if you get a new job or have a spare minute, give her a call! Also keep in mind she is still available to help you with any job search/resume tweaking needs.

Now to update you on what is going on with everyone else I know about so far:
Amy Grenier, '08 began working as a paralegal for a law firm in DC and is working on honing her skills for grad school which she plans to pursue next winter.
Cait Rizzardo, '08 has moved into her new home in Dayton, Ohio, and will start grad school at Wright State in the Fall.
Melody Thomas, '08 is a recruitment administrator for Booz Allen Hamilton, near our house in Rockville, MD.
Erin Adams, '08 is working for Contech Construction in Ohio as an executive assistant.
Casey Bridgers, '08 moved into her new apartment in Fairfax, VA last week!
Katie Kressin, '08 is wrapping up her internship in Minnesota and is NEWLY ENGAGED! Congrats Katie!
Joan Hexter, '08 is in the middle of her training with KONE and will be stopping through DC and visiting us. Woo hoo!

If I missed anybody, please comment and let me know what I missed!

Also, if you haven't gotten in touch with me, let us know what is going on with you!

First Post

Hey everyone!

Can you believe we have finally graduated college? I know I can't, and the adjustment period is an interesting time, and I'm sure we're all going through the same things.

Being the savvy, technologically advanced ladies we are, I thought one way we could all keep in touch would be via a blog. I'll be posting periodically to update about my life, as well as the lives (whether they like it or not bwahahaha) of my two roommates, Jenni Austin '08 and Melody Thomas '08. I invite all of you to create a username and post to the blog as often as you like, keeping us updated on what you are doing.
Some ideas for updating are:
  • If you get a new job
  • If you move locations
  • If you become engaged or get married
  • If you get a new pet/have a baby/start a new hobby/do something new in your life
  • If you want to have a get-together in your area
  • If you have questions regarding alumnae affairs/matters ( I will do my best to get in touch with the Alumnae Association and get them answered ASAP)
  • If you just want to say hello!

More news to come, and I'll be trying to figure out how to make this an open blog so we can all post in the coming days.

As always, miss you all and wish safe travels and good luck on all your upcoming endeavors!
